How to Study NCERT Biology for NEET: A Line-by-Line Method

Vidya720 · 2026-10-21

A practical way to read NCERT Biology for NEET: what to underline, how to turn lines into questions, and how to revise without re-reading.

Why NCERT first

NEET Biology questions are built from the NCERT text. That is why every chapter should be read line by line before you attempt any other book. Reading once is not enough: the aim is to be able to answer a question about any sentence.

Read in three passes

Pass 1: read the chapter at normal speed and mark only words you do not know. Pass 2: read slowly and underline every fact that could be turned into a question, such as a name, a number, a list or an exception. Pass 3: close the book and write what you remember. Whatever you missed goes on a short list.

Turn lines into questions

For each underlined fact, ask yourself how an examiner would test it. A list becomes "which one is not in this list". A number becomes "how many". An exception becomes "which is the odd one out". Practising this makes the exam feel familiar.

Use tables and diagrams

Many NEET Biology questions come from tables, flow charts and labelled diagrams. Redraw each diagram from memory and label it. Do the same for each table.

Check yourself with questions

After each chapter attempt questions on that chapter the same day, then again after two days and after a week. Read the reason for every wrong option, because that is where most of the learning happens.
